A Simple Guideline For Success In Forums

By Dean Quek

There are online forums meant for all kinds of topics and focus, and these forums attract all kinds of different people to participate in the community. Some people join forums to make more friends, some people join forums to discuss about a certain hobby or interest, and some people join forums to advertise and make money.

Forums are a fantastic way to promote your product or service. And perhaps the best thing about forums is the close-to-immediate response of the community, which is not possible in other avenues of advertising. With that said, there are certain tips and methods to get positive results in forums. And any person participating in forums in the aim of promoting their service or product would perhaps like to take note of these points to achieve the desired results:

1. There are an almost un-countable number of forums out there. Be selective, and choose your forums carefully. This is because only a certain number of them will apply to you and your business.

2. Determine your purpose before joining a particular forum. It may be fun chatting and making new friends in the forums, but unless it helps your business, there probably isn't any reason for you to be there.

3. Make sense in your posts. If you often deviate from the topic at hand, the community will soon ignore your posts.

4. Do not blatantly spam or advertise. Many forums take spam very seriously. It will turn the community off, and might result in you getting banned or your thread deleted. E.g. Ablewise forums have a strict stance against blatant advertising and spamming.

5. Write coherently. If your posts have too many grammatical or spelling errors, the community will soon ignore your posts.

6. If you have decided to participate in a particular forum, participate actively and regularly. If you only post a reply or thread once in a blue moon, nobody will take notice.

7. If a question is asked and you have knowledge about it, try to share your views and knowledge. This will aid in you building a reputation as an expert in that area.

8. Try to help the community as much as you can. This will aid in increasing your "karma" in the forum; others would be inclined to help you back.

9. Always, always include your signature after every post. This will create backlinks for your business.

Lastly, the most important factor of using forums for your business is, perhaps, time. It will not be immediately that you are able to get results. Use your time in forums, and use it wisely.
