When posting on a forum, you may want to adhere to these suggested tips in addition to following each forums specific posting instructions.

While these tips are not rules, and do not have to be followed word for word, they are suggestions, something for you to think about. Hopefully these suggestions will guide to a better understanding about online forums. One should bare in mind that these rules may not apply (every forum is unigue). If they do not apply, let them fly. If they're good, use them you should!

Use common sense, using expletives (adult language) might not be such a good idea when posting on a family oriented forum, a religous themed forum, or a teen mostly forum. However, if you are posting in an adult themed forum, please by all means -- When in Rome do like the Romans do.

Note, FORUM SPECIFIC POSTING INSTRUCTIONS OVERRULE THESE TIPS.

With that said, here they are:

  1. Registering an Account
Forum Owners want posters to look like the real deal. When registering an account, fill in more than required. Fill in options such as birth date, interests, instant messaging etc. Upload an avatar.

  2. Blending in
Blend in with the environment of the forum. If the forum is about cars, be a car enthusiast. If no one has any idea that you are a hired forum poster, than you are doing your job.

  3. Common Sense
When in doubt, use common sense. Post in the threads regarding the forum topic; try not to make any posts in the general threads. Use forum appropriate language: whether it be no internet slang or adult language.
Take a minute to look around the forum so you are familiar with it.

  4. Length of Posting
Unless otherwise stated, make your posts on average over 25 words long. If you have many short posts, make some extra to compensate.

  5. Quality of Posting
Make your posts grammatical. Don’t have any spelling mistakes. Make each post thoughtful. Add some content to the forum, not just conversation. Be a conversation starter, don’t just reply to threads. Be the forum’s most valuable member.

  6. Be an Overachiever
Make a few more posts than you are supposed to. The extra 5 minutes you spend can me the difference between getting no reputation and +1 for the job, and ultimately getting paid $.10 per post and $.20. Login to the forum even after your job is completed. Check your private messages and any unfinished conversations.

  7. Finish It
Find the contact of the forum owner. Send him a thank you email. Tell him you’re done with posting and give him some suggestions and comments on the forum.
