Here are the technical keys to making and maintaining an online forum that will attract users and make affiliate income. If you want to make Your Own Discussion Board and have it flourish with interested clicks, keep the following hard-learned lessons in mind.
1. Make or Devise a Banner
The banner is typically the large image file that sits at the top of your forum. This is usually the place to put the principal graphics or even a text message that introduces or illustrates the purpose or central topics of your forum. If it pertains to a business enterprise, a simple logo is required. Anything less makes the forum look unfinished.
2. Leave a Email Contact
Many newbie users make a forum but leave no avenue for a guest browser to communicate with the webmaster. This is essential if the registration feature is not operating. Or if a banner or graphic file is not loading, or leaves a little red x, or if there are problems loading the forum. Without an email contact the admin has no way to know that the forum is experiencing troubles untilits to late, traffic has died.
3. Provide Proper Access
Administrators of new online forums must allow for startup functions. Many new threads or topics should be created. Unless you anticipate hundredes of users an hour, do NOT restrict user groups for new members of your forum. Admins of online forums forget to check their administrator email or don't get back to the forum while members are grapppling with a structural problem.
4. Set up Proper User Groups
Forum admins can be set up to allow special user groups and user groups (called rankings) that have different access. Some can make new topics, some can only reply. Some can edit existing posts from other users. If the online administrator or webmaster wants to assig certain users moderator capability, then they need only provide the appropriate information in the user's profile. This way even Moderators or Administrators can be disallowed from certain areas of security.
5. Send out Announcement Messages and Updates.
When a signicant change occurs, or a news event happens within the area of your forum's central theme of interest, send out a email bulletin to all memebers from the admin account using the "email all members" function. use humor and passion for your topics as you create unique messages and announcements.
6. Provide Decent Avatars
Avatars are small bitmaps that function as identity or comic relief and show up in every member's posts. When members sign up, they have the option to select from a provided menu. If the admin or forum webmaster does not provide a range of files then the forum looks unready for users. If the forum is for a movie or game, then use characters or pictures from that source.
7. Colors Schemes
The color scheme of an online forum signals it's administrator's interest in keeping members interested. Members are people who have signed up and made up names they can be known by, referred to as "usernames". memebers like to see complimentary colors and a design that is easy on the eye. A design that makes the forum hard to use is not going to attract repeat member visits.
8. Promote Interest With Contests or Games
Many forum admins notice a lag in the posting rate and ponder what to do. They want to keep browsers coming back to the site because their pageviews create afiliate income. A contest for so many posts within a timeframe, or a competition for the most original or most amusing avatar or signature (tagine with every post) can attract a lot of member response.
9. Skins
From time to time forum administrators can devise a new color scheme that optionally can make the forum seem new and more interesting. The file can be saved and tweaked again and again before releasing it for member use. Mebers can elect to change the "skin" from the default.
10. Learn the Lessons from other Forum Makers
Cruise the other sites that pertain to your user group or central topic. See what colors and icons (accessory images) you like and do not like. This way you can make your online forum unique.
